The Tryouts are a two piece indie pop band who met when singer-songwriter, Chelsea Reed, hired guitarist, David Macmichael, to back her up on a small Canadian tour in late 2017. A few co-writes later the pair took a songwriting trip to LA and decided to get married. It was there they penned the autobiographical debut single, Washer, which leads the launch of their first EP Nothing Bad is Ever Going to Happen. Produced by Jack Moffitt (The Preatures, I Know Leopard, Johnny Hunter), the EP showcases a range of surfy sounds, bratty power pop, and piano ballads. Lead single Washer has already been met with glowing reviews from community and national radio across Australia including Triple J, FBi, 4ZZZ, RTR FM and 2SER. The duo have shared the stage with notable artists such as Ben Lee, Sloan Peterson ,Tamara & the Dreams and Joan & the Giants as well as being invited to open for legendary ‘90s band Smudge. The Tryouts are continuing to tour throughout Australia in 2024 and are working on their debut full length album with producer Paul McKercher.

Karl S. Williams and Sally Wiggins

Genre defying multi-instrumentalist and award winning songwriter Karl S. Williams is taking his new album ‘Rainbows in the Gasoline’ on the road with a series of extensive and expanding tours. Joining him is renowned South Coast percussionist Sally Wiggins who brings an immense musicality - enabling these folk, blues and gospel inflected songs to expand into fascinating new territory.

With a mandate to improvise, eschew convention and play, Karl and Sally liberate each other to explore and lean into the songs, playing with space and silence as much as notes. Less than a year into their journey the pair have already clocked up appearances at festivals such as Cronulla Jazz & Blues, Wintermoon and Kiama Jazz & Blues - and opened for The Whitlams.

Long enamoured with the drummer-singer duo format in its capacity to both rock and be intimate, it was a fortuitous meeting at Majors Creek Music Festival early in 2023 which brought Karl and Sally together. The mutual admiration and immediate connection translated into a magical musical communication from the first moment they convened to play. Now the pair set about exploring the gamut of this sound on stages across the country - to mesmerising effect.

Dave Graney and Clare Moore have in recent years been swinging between song focused studio albums (like this one) and more band focused rock albums, (like their previous set In A Mistly).

(strangely)(emotional) is so carefully titled because that’s the age we live in. A person has to be sure and careful of their words. It’s a sensitive area, the world, in 2024. Even though it is also brutal, viral and violent all at once. (The ground we walk upon is contested and just holding together with surface tension). So the words are quarantined from each other, in parentheses so as not to be qualifying or commenting on the other.

The sounds on the album come from vintage drum machines, electric (six and twelve string) and acoustic (nylon and steel string) guitars, pedal steel, harp, harmonica, electric piano, drums, vibes, marimba, mellotron and tenor and soprano sax.

The words are rich, playful and very personal. Dave Graney is a proud Creative Creep.

(strangely)(emotional) comes after a year where Graney and Moore toured the country to joy and acclaim with their 90s band Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes. This album was cooking away in the background all the while.

It’s a Dave Graney and Clare Moore album. They’ve always done their own thing. This time, it’s (strangely)(emotional)
