Sunset Stranger (aka Melbourne-based alt-country guitar picker and songwriter Stephen E. Stanisic) released his new single and video for the song 'Prometheus Blues' on November 10.
'Prometheus Blues' is the first single from his forthcoming LP, the follow up to 'Your Home Town' which was called ‘one of the finest Australian Americana albums of 2020’ and included the memorable single ‘What Your Loving Means To Me.’
‘Prometheus Blues’ features lyrical wordplay backed by intricate guitar lines, doo-wop harmonies, and the distinctive sound of Pete Fidler’s dobro, all set to a foot-stomping country blues beat.
The accompanying film clip is a stop-motion collage that retells the Prometheus myth in a modern context.
Since the release of ‘Your Home Town’ he has also recorded 'Balmer Street Blues' (2021), an EP of instrumental folk guitar influenced by fingerstyle guitarists like John Fahey, Michael Chapman and Bert Jansch.
Sunset Stranger’s newest LP is set to be released in 2023 and marks another evolution in his sound, as the band explores the outer edges of progressive country music with haunting lap steel and lush harmonies.
Sunset Stranger is currently touring in support of ‘Prometheus Blues’, with regional dates in 2022, a show at Hobart’s MONA on January 22nd and more dates to follow in 2023.
